93 all!

Can Thelema and democracy work hand in hand? Meaning, can all of the trappings of democracy such as the importance of free speech, work with Thelema? If it can work with Thelema, can it work with the OTO (even though the OTO, specifically, isn't a democratic organization)?

My thoughts are, at best, ill-formed on the matter and I'm still trying to decide what I think. :-p

"...It is a lie, this folly against self...." (AL II, 22)

This is the central doctrine of Thelema in this matter. What are we to understand by it? That this imbecile and nauseating cult of weakness— democracy some call it—is utterly false and vile.

    From Magick Without Tears:

    And also this:

    10. The principle of popular election is a fatal folly; its results are visible in every so-called democracy. The elected man is always themediocrity; he is the safe man, the sound man, the man who displeases the majority less than any other; and therefore never the genius, the man of progress and illumination

    Thelema…religion, philosophy?
    Democracy…a politic?

Politic: a policy of the people.
Our perception, interpretation, and navigation of this realm is human-centric. Following this logic, everything is politics. An idea like division between church & state isn’t really possible.
Democracy is generally interpreted as power to the people (and by extension: freedom of the people), in one guise or another. Power is always in the hands of the people. This is on the assumption that people choose to exercise it, to participate in the act of freedom. If will is a display of power, of freedom, and if power, freedom, is the result of people executing their will, then is that not democracy?

You think your thoughts are ‘ill-formed’? What do you think of mine? :-D

Can democracy & Thelema go hand in hand? Does it matter? Does Christianity and democracy compliment one another? ……..depends on the objectives of the populace, who holds the majority, and who is content with the construct of their society. They would most likely concur that democracy & Christianity are allies. Then there are the discontented, those who disagree…anti-abortionists, anti-homosexuality, etc.
Democracy is not a license (or guarantee) for tolerance, unless the ‘majority’ feels this has a place in their society. Democracy can very well be draconian in nature if the ‘majority’ wishes it to be so.
Might makes right? Lords & vassals? That’s how it breaks down. Liber aL states as much.

Thelema is a political platform, if you wish it to be. Thelema & democracy can compliment each other; Democracy is quite pliable.

Is ‘will’, by nature, democratic? I would think not, seeing as ‘will’ would be singular. Though, ‘will’ can be collective.

I’m not keen on the OTO…worthless, in my opinion.
